In Support of Brett Burford

Family and Friends,

This May has been a doozy. Many of you know that Brett has an undiagnosed connective tissue disorder that causes his blood vessels to tear and bleed easily.

On May 2, he was admitted to the hospital. Blood clots in his left leg had totally blocked his iliac artery which provides blood flow to the leg. Instead of operating immediately, we decided to try blood thinners as an interim solution to buy some time while we sought more advanced medical care. We knew it was risky due to his bleeding history, but operating on his body without a thorough plan and highly experienced team would be riskier. He celebrated May the 4th in a hospital gown instead of a Star Wars T-shirt, but thankfully was discharged later that day, with blood flow miraculously still going throughout his leg.

On May 7, Brett started experiencing excruciating pain and numbness in the hip/thigh. The pain spread up into his back and chest. His vitals tanked and he was airlifted to UAB. Turns out the blood thinners caused a major internal bleed in the retroperitoneal. Brett's worst nightmare about the blood thinners literally came true.

After a terrifying 12 hours full of doctors, meds, & blood transfusions, he started to stabilize - THANK YOU JESUS πŸ™ŒπŸ» He is currently in the ICU cracking jokes and in good spirits awaiting surgery to open his iliac artery back up.

We've been overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of support thus far. Our village is amazing, and we are SO grateful.

One of my high school friends created this platform, and I thought this would be the easiest way to share updates, as well as coordinate support because so many of you have reached out offering to help.

There are several areas we would be so grateful for support: first and foremost, prayer. Pray for miraculous healing & strengthening of Brett's blood vessels and for a successful surgery to restore blood flow to his leg. Meal support is also incredibly helpful as it gives us one less thing to worry about. You can also volunteer to mow the lawn, walk our dogs, help with the kids, or even just come by for a visit to lift Brett’s spirits.

Here’s what you can do to stay in the know and help make things a little easier for us:

Your support means the world to us, and every prayer makes a difference 🀍 We are believing God for miracles this year πŸ™πŸ»πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ™ŒπŸ»
