Blood levels are back up!
Brett Burford
Wanted to share a Saturday afternoon update while Brett is napping.
I got back up to the hospital a couple hours ago, and Brett already looks SO much better!
His hemoglobin was 6.8 this morning (normal levels are over 11 I think), which is why they did the blood transfusion. Their goal was to get him up to 8, and as of an hour ago, he's at 8.3 🙌🏻
The surgeon cleared him to sit upright for about an hour today, so that's a great sign. They don't want him doing more than that yet because they are concerned he may start bleeding again.
He also was cleared to eat "real" food. However, eating is pretty uncomfortable for him still. He has said his abdomen just feels really full, and that's because of the all the blood that's pooled up and compressing his other organs.
One of the most uncomfortable things for him today is that they have to stick him every 4 hours to take blood. For someone with fragile veins that bruise and tear easily, this is really painful. They blew veins 2 different times during 2 of the labs today. In addition to this, he already has 3 IVs in his arms right now. So you can imagine how beat up his arms are.
Praises:
- Overall, his pain has been manageable today 🙌🏻 though he said it definitely feels like someone sliced into his leg 😅
- He still has steady blood flow to the leg 🙌🏻
- He may get moved out of ICU tomorrow and into a regular room 🙏🏻
Hope everyone has a great night!
