Oakley Werley’s Miracle Heart

What a week… so much heart ache and pain. Losing our sweet baby girl Leighton has been more painful than I ever could have imagined. The pain is unexplainable. As my life feels like it is crashing down, we have to keep going.

The same day our baby girl gained her angel wings Oakleys surgeon Dr. Fraser hurt his back while operating and is now taking a minimum of 2 weeks off to rest. He was the only transplant surgeon Dell had and now the entire transplant program is shut down with him out. This was more heart breaking news as Oakley has already been waiting nearly 9 months for her miracle and still has not gotten any offers.

This has made us come to the decision that we need to transfer Oakley to a different hospital to give her the best chance possible at getting her miracle heart. We have decided on Texas Children’s in Houston which is the #1 cardiac transplant center in the US. She has been accepted medically and now we wait on insurance. We are not sure what this will look like financially to get her there but pray God makes a way. We need her miracle and we need it as soon as possible. Please Lord, we need You.

With a broken heart I will continue to fight and advocate for Oakley. The only explanation to this strength is from God and I will forever give him all the glory.

Your prayers mean the world to us. Please pray that Oakley remains stable and that she can get to Houston as so soon as possible. Being here without a surgeon is terrifying. I just want the peace in knowing my baby is safe.

Thank you for all your love.

-Kennidi

Hello Werley family! I came across your story a week or so ago and I wanted to let you know about an organization called Born Abel. Their mission is to celebrate children with complex medical conditions and offer support to their families. They have specific support groups for various diagnoses, a network of support for parents of medically complex children as well as those who have lost a child. Their website is www.bornabel.org if you'd like to check them out. (Or maybe you're already connected with them, in which case, disregard this comment.)

Praying for your family as you navigate these changes and challenges. 💕

Don’t give up hope. My friends grandson was in CHOP for almost a year (December is 1 year) waiting on a heart. He was sedated more than once and in the operating room to bed told it wasn’t a match. Well he received his new heart on November 1. Miracles do happen. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m praying for you and your family.

To this precious family. We are so sorry for your loss in the midst of all this. The Lord will prove himself faithful. I hope this may be encouraging for you. Last year at this time our 20 year old granddaughter was in the hospital in heart failure waiting for her heart gift. Now a year later we look forward to celebrating to celebrating her first heart birthday. She’s doing fine. We pray the move to the Houston hospital happens soon and goes well. We pray for your continued strength and Oakleys health as you wait. We pray for the perfect heart to be found for your dear Oakley.
