The Berndt Family
Hi Everyone!
Sarah Blazek here. I'm stealing Monica's update page to pass along ways you can support the family as they gear up for port day and Chemo Round 1! Click on the "See Options" button next to Lend a Hand to see all the ways you can support the Berndts! Below is an overview of each way to help.
Note: Please keep in mind as you're delivering items that the family likely won't be up for visitors. We'll have a cooler on the porch for meals so you can "drop & go" items and then send a text to let the family know that there is something on the porch for them!
1. Journal of Love & Laughter - Monica has LOVED all the handwritten notes. She has requested no more blank journals or affirmations (y'all were on top of that!) Instead, she would like YOU to put your feelings down in a traveling journal. Sign up for a date to jot down your encouragement, funniest memory with Monica and even include a picture or drawing! The journal will make its way back to Monica the Monday before each chemo session (every 3 weeks), so she has new handwritten notes to read each round! Each person gets the journal for 2 days before they pass it on to the next person on the calendar. (Exception is this first week so Monica has lots of things to read going into Chemo Round 1). If you don't live nearby, text me and I'll mail you some blank pages that can be returned once complete and then added to the journal! We want your words included!!!
2. Chemo Week Meals - Bring them a warm meal! Eventually we will include more dates but we're only focused on the first week of chemo right now until we know how Monica feels afterwards. The boys like kid-friendly foods and Monica isn't really feeling solid foods at the moment so please try to stick to kid staples (pasta, tacos, chicken, burgers, etc.) and maybe throw in a smoothie or some soup for Monica if you're able! Not a great cook pr don't live close? DoorDash gift cards are always welcome too!
3. Monica loves flowers and Matt loves Miller Lite! - Monica has loved receiving flowers but their home is starting to look like a greenhouse. We're spreading out the love so she'll have fresh flowers (she loves ALL types) all throughout her treatment and our caregiver gets to unwind with his preferred flavored water. Sign up on the calendar to bring flowers and Miller Lite (all other beer brands will be promptly returned).
4. Frozen Casseroles - Have a favorite casserole you love? Well the Berndts have a giant "dead body freezer" with room to spare! We've included a sign up for one frozen casserole a week so they always have something quick to feed everyone without having to eat it right away. Be sure to make it kid friendly and label what it is along with cooking instructions!
5. Favorite Book - Monica will have some time on her hands and loves to read! Gift her a copy of your favorite book to help her pass the time! She's always looking for a great book!
6. Amazon Wish List - We've generated some ideas for useful gifts that will support Monica throughout her treatment. Feel free to deviate from the list if you have color/brand preferences, it's just there for ideas! Items can be shipped directly to the Berndts or feel free to hand deliver to their front porch (be sure to include who it's from!) Link to Amazon Wishlist is below!

7. Don't Forget about the Boys! - We want to keep life normal and fun for the boys as much as possible. Activities they can do without Monica & Matt having to help them are great! So are playdates! Arrange playdates for the boys directly with Matt & Monica but dropping off fun (and hopefully mess free for the parents) activities is always appreciated!
As we come up with additional ways you can help, we'll be sure to include in the updates. The Berndts send their appreciation to everyone as they can feel everyone's love, prayers and support. Let's kick cancer's ass!
