Information really is power. Knowing everything has helped us understand what we're dealing with and have a plan in place to beat this thing.
This week, I'll be getting a port installed, and our goal is to start chemo next week. Chemo will be once every 3 weeks for 6 rounds. My chemo infusions will be about 4 to 4.5 hours long, and I'll be getting a combination of 2 different kinds. Matt called dibs on being my chemo infusion date, but if that changes, I'll let you know.
So why chemo first? Dr. Yap said statistically, the outcomes are about the same, but starting with chemo can make surgery less invasive. They don't start with surgery unless they see something that makes them need to.
Dr. Yap said to expect a full 6+ months for my treatment plan and advised that I take time off from work if that's an option. So I'll be working on those details this week as well.
There will be side effects from the chemo, but they are different for everyone, so they will be monitoring me closely.
