Picture: We had a pre-holiday zoom call with Matt’s family last night and they all had on matching “Monica Strong” t-shirts. It brought such a smile to my face, I married the most amazing man and got amazing in-laws as an added bonus 🩵
Okay folks, this is the best update yet! I had my PET scan Tues morning and as we were driving home I got teary and told Matt I was feeling anxious for the results.
I prayed during the 20 mins of holding still. I thanked God for my sweet family, my incredible husband and two boys who bring the biggest smile to my face when I think of them. I thanked God for you all, the incredible people I have in my life, who have wrap our family in prayer, love and support. I asked for the tumors to be small and boldly asked for a miracle.
In full disclosure, I also thought about what I wanted for lunch, 20 mins of holding still is a long time, I decided on Mexican and we ended up going to a great little hole in the wall that I heard about up in Roswell called San Pancho. Locals, I highly recommend, it was delish.
Anyway, back to the waiting... we were not expecting to know the scan results until our appt next Tues so when I got a call from my doctor’s office on the same day as the scan I answered on speaker. They said they read the results and wanted to call and share that my scans show significant improvements 🎉. When we asked what that meant they went on to share that they confirmed the cancer had not spread and that every lesion (tumor) has shrunk significantly, additionally the brightness, which measures the metabolic activity of the cancer cells on a scale, has significantly reduced like 18 down to 5, 21 down to 5… the tumors are shrinking and the cancer dying!
Matt and I sat on the couch and cried happy tears and it started to sink in. It is working, I am beating cancer. Later in the evening my chemo nurse called and shared that my CA-125 is now in the normal range. I have gone from 440 when I was diagnosed to 25 (normal is <40). Again, the realization of it is working, I am beating cancer, is washing over me.
Matt and I said that we have gone from HOPING to BELIEVING and it feels so freaking good. What a week. What a time to Give Thanks.
Enjoy this time with your families. Eat pie for breakfast, wear the stretchy pants, skip the turkey and do sides only, then eat some more pie. I love you all, thank you again.
