The Bachman Family
I hate to say it, but in what feels like a cruel joke, Landry was admitted again Thursday night for another GI bleed after just having a wonderful first day back to school a few hours earlier.
She’s currently in the PICU and we are waiting for today’s plans. Yesterday’s fear was the need for intubation in order to protect her airway. She has a tube through her nose into her stomach and is hooked up to constant suction so everything that needs to come out has another route. It seems like the only thing that’s given her any consistent relief and helped us avoid intubation.
We’ve also avoided a blood transfusion up to this point, but her hemoglobin has dropped into single digits and is being checked every six hours, so she’ll get one accordingly if needed.
One of the hardest decisions was which hospital to bring her to on Thursday and we ultimately ended up in Peoria. I wish it was always as straightforward and simple as getting Landry the very best care, but there’s so much more to weigh in the decision. It’s not that one hospital is good and the other inherently bad or it would be a no-brainer. But with Peoria still being a very safe and familiar option for Landry, we chose to stay close to Chandler at Christmas time in case this gets drawn out.
Landry has gotten periods of more restful sleep overnight thanks to scheduled 24/7 meds and the patch form of one of her regular medications that can’t be given through the IV. I was able to get some rest as well, which helped me feel more clear to write an update.
We appreciate your prayers in the coming days more than we could ever express. I will update as I can.
