In Support of Katherine Parga

With profound regret and unending grief, I convey this deeply painful period in our existence. On May 5, 2021, at merely four years old, our son faced a dire prognosis: Stage III Wilms tumors, an abdominal cancer. This revelation shattered our reality, rendering us speechless. Witnessing such innocence battle a malignant disease wrenches our souls. The loss of simple childhood pleasures to illness represents an immeasurable tragedy. Despite our desires to shield him, we confront our helplessness against such overwhelming adversity.Initially, his symptoms were misattributed to minor ailments. Trusting our instincts, we pursued further evaluation, leading to his urgent admission to John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. Following a rigorous fight, he achieved remission, offering a brief respite until December 2, 2021, when we learned the cancer had metastasized to his lungs, renewing our battle with this formidable foe. We've been at the hospital since February 18, 2024, with my son moving in and out of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). We recently learned that his condition is getting worse, and we're waiting to find out if they can remove his lung. If they go ahead with it, his treatment will continue in another state, making it hard for us to travel there and still manage our bills. Wilms tumor, or nephroblastoma, tragically targets the innocence of youth, representing the primary renal malignancy in children. David has endured numerous chemotherapy treatments and transfusions with admirable bravery. Despite his fluctuating condition, his fortitude inspires everyone. Yet, our journey is laden with uncertainties and the growing vulnerability of his immune system. The financial and logistical demands of ongoing care are daunting, casting shadows over our future. The cumulative costs remain uncertain, necessitating community support. We are immensely grateful for any assistance, which serves as a beacon of hope in these dark times. We owe immense thanks to our family, friends, the community, and medical professionals for their steadfast support and kindness. As we navigate this daunting path, we solicit your continued thoughts, prayers, and support, standing united against this daunting adversary.
