Jason Henkel and Family
Jason had a great few days after my last post. Jeremy, Chelsea and Dallas came for a visit over the weekend, and it is always good to see them. There was lots of family time. Along with more friends coming to visit from out of town as well. Our goal was to keep him comfortable and cool during those really hot days last week. He got a little old school Nintendo to hook up to his TV and was able to play Zelda for small increments at time to help pass time.
He has really started to only be in his bed in the spare bedroom now, with not a lot of moving about the house with the exception of getting up for the bathroom. He did however make it out to the couch to watch the Home Run Derby with Ben and Brad on Monday night, of course he gets out of bed to watch baseball. ;) Ben brough Yang's from Monmouth, if you know you know, and that was a big hit.
The last few days we have seen a slight change, his headaches have increased, and he is a little more confused and takes a little longer to process things, so we are really focused on making sure his pain is controlled. He gets a little confused about what time of day it is, and the last few nights wakes up at 3:00am needing a little snack, and something for pain. I'll tell you midnight snacks are not my forte, usually the best I can come up with is a cookie or a piece of cinnamon toast. Our hospice nurse says we are still only on plan A for his pain, and we have still have wiggle room there still before moving on to plan B. He has still been his sassy self and has some strong opinions at times about what he wants to eat or not eat for that matter.
It seems that when he has a few bad days things will level out again and he will have some good days between. A couple years ago when he had the first brain tumor, his doctor explained that our brains are really smart and can self-correct really well, think of it as a teetertotter, if one side gets off the other side does a really good job of figuring out how to correct itself, or level out.
We were trying to have two times for visitors but for the next few days we will probably only be doing evenings. Shorter visits seem to be better and less people at time also. 2 people at time seems to work best for him. He does really enjoy having people come visit and we talk about the visit the next day usually, sometimes he doesn't remember the night before well in the morning but by the afternoon he does.
I want to THANK all of you for your continued support for our family. I cannot express enough the gratitude I have for every one of you. Your support and prayers mean the world to us.
