She did it. Y'all did it. Jesus did it. Emily crossed her cancer journey "finish line" of sorts as scheduled on Wednesday this week, ending with her preventative full hysterectomy. And words fall short when she tries to thank all of YOU that have helped her through this year. You know who you are! Such blessings to her family. From gifting her a wig, to gifting her with housekeeping, to gifting her homemade meals and fresh groceries, to sending a coffee gift card for those long drives back and forth for daily radiation, and so many other ways.
A year marked with a shocking diagnosis just after Easter, immediate mastectomy, endless rounds of chemo and radiation, then ending with this hysterectomy. Her body and spirit have endured so much in 2024, but she is undoubtedly ending this year stronger than how she began. She has allowed the Lord to grow her faith to depths you can only imagine walking through such uncertainty, and gained an outlook on life we all could wish to have. Glory to God.
Her positive spirit, never once feeling sorry for herself, have touched me firsthand. And has me complaining a lot LESS about the minor inconveniences of life. Bad hair day? Annual doctors appointments? Not "feeling like" exercising my body?
We all get to make investments in our bodies, and what we fuel it with, directly impacts how it performs. Emily joined a gym and began exercising 3+ times a week, because we can never become complacent with our health. And she may not be able to go backwards in time to a year ago, but she can control her FORWARD. How she takes care of herself today, and gently encourages other women to do the same. Because as any cancer patient would tell you, cancer is never really "behind you".
And that's where I'd like to close this dedicated page of updates with -- praying for "her forward". That she would have no reoccurrence and clear scans, with a peaceful heart knowing she's done everything her medical team asked of her. Annual MRI's will provide that clarity, but we know our hope is in the Lord. He's got the whole world in His hands, including my sister's precious life.
So I thank you personally for following along her journey here, and please know your love has touched our family deeply! If you'd like to leave her a note below, it always means so much.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you and yours,
Stephanie
P.S.- Have you scheduled your mammogram for 2025? Get it on the books now, and tell them the Britt sisters sent you :)
