Strike 11:

Today was strike 11 against chemo. Only one final strike and the chemo game is over. We already know the outcome… clearly Team Bear wins the game…. But unfortunately there is no slaughter rule in this game and therefore we must play until the chemo game ends according to the official rule book— it called for 12.

Last nights family FaceTime “pregame” was uplifting as always. Will lead yet another amazing devotion. The word for round 11 is “constant.” Will talked about the connections between the the constants in both the game of baseball and the constants in God’s promises.
He also pointed out how Coach has remained constant in his attitude, faith, and perseverance.
Thankfully coach’s labs have also remained constant which has allowed him the ability to stay on course and never miss a scheduled chemo appointment. Huge praise and something they prepared us might not happen. As many patients get too sick or weak to stay the course.

Today’s chemo chaperone was a long time family friend, Dr. Rob Matheny. And the surprise pinch hitter was his son, Taylor Matheny, whom was one of coaches favorite former baseball players. I know they had the best time catching up and spending the day together. There are many silver linings to be found when life throws us curveballs.

Thankfully the only side effect has been intermittent extreme fatigue. Which allows coach plenty of time out breaks. After which he is able to rally and finish the play.

Time flies when you are playing ball— hard to believe there’s only one more at bat left. The final swing is sure to be epic….ESPN is already pre writing the media headlines.

Coach, the team mom, and the starting lineup wouldn’t have made it this far without the amazing fans cheering us on, praying for us, and  believing along side us for a final victory this side of heaven.

Please continue to pray. There are upcoming scans, upcoming lab reports, and upcoming team meetings amongst the various medical professionals. There are always unknowns lingering in our hearts and minds. Even though the current score board does look to be in Team Bear’s favor.

Let’s keep playing ball and praising the lord!

“ Faith does not mean trusting God to stop the Storm, but trusting Him to strengthen us as we walk through the Storm”! I shared this quote with Bobby almost a month ago. To witness his resilience and positivity has been an inspiration to many! While baseball has been the analogous sport(which I Love), ‘ Ol # 14 is definitely smelling the end zone now! Love You, Sir! Bear Strong! ⚾️🏈🙏🏻🍀🐻💪😘

With one at bat remaining, the MVP voting has been cast and Bob wins in a landslide. With the Triple Crown (God, Jesus, Holy Spirit) firmly in his grasp, he has been an example to us all. Go get'em Coach!

Maggie, thank you for this beautifully written and inspiring update. How appropriate that this is the metaphor Team Bear has chosen to follow and the beauty of Coach's Faith and the Faith of "the Team". I look forward to seeing the 12th Strike as I know you all are. Coach was and has been a huge figure in our family over the years as he and Coach Hutts took my son, Wil under their wing on Murphy Candler Majors Marlins. Coach encouraged, helped and instructed Wil and that has had lasting impact on me as well as Wil. Coach, stay tough and strong. You've worn the "tools of ignorance" and that has served you well all these years! All our love and prayers...

I looked this up because with God there are no accidents. 12 is the number of perfection, authority and completeness! For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. You have walked thru challenge this with dignity and strength and I will be excited to see you come to the final #12 treatment of this part of your journey! PraisingJesus for your complete healing and the return of strength to your body!
